Message from Executive Director, Rosemary Q. Steele

Dear Residents,

Residents see grilling as a summertime fundamental however it is prohibited because of safety concerns, insurance risks, and evolving fire codes is the reason why THA had to put stricter rules in place.

The primary motivation behind these bans is fire prevention. Gas and charcoal grills are leading causes of residential fires, particularly in multifamily unit buildings where a single mistake can quickly escalate into a building-wide disaster.

What's Being Enforced
In your lease, use and or storage of these items are prohibited:

  • Use or storage of charcoal, propane or gas grills
  • Storage of propane tanks in common areas or units
  • Storage of gas or propane containers on the property
  • Use of any type of fireworks on the property
  • Any gas generated bikes or generators inside the units

Residents are encouraged to thoroughly review their leases and ensure they remain in compliance. Grills are available in the common areas for your use if you wish to grill outdoors.

A summer cookout might seem harmless, but in a multifamily unit, it could carry serious consequences includes termination of your lease.

Rosemary Steele, Executive Director

Smart Ways to Protect Kids Bikes When Kids Use Them Daily
To prevent theft of kids' bikes, parents should take the following precautions:

  • Bring bikes inside daily to minimize theft risk
  • Use a secure lock when leaving bikes outside temporarily
  • Store bikes in a well-lit, visible area if indoors is not possible
  • Encourage kids to keep their bikes in a designated spot
  • Educate kids about the importance of bike security

Coming Soon "New Roofs Installation"

The Thomasville Housing Authority (THA) has hired NC Roofing LLC.to install and replace the new roofs on James Avenue.

The replacement of the roof is set to commence in May. This crucial maintenance is being undertaken to enhance the safety and long-term condition of the property.

During this time, you may experience elevated noise levels, temporary restrictions to certain areas (such as parking spaces, balconies, or entrances), and other minor disruptions. For your safety, please avoid entering any marked or restricted construction zones.

The date of installation will be conveyed to every resident. This process will be conducted in a timely manner to ensure the replacement of each building. During this procedure, we kindly ask for your patience.

Easter Egg Decorating Competition
Easter Egg Decorating Competition was held on Thursday, April 2, 2026. The contest was for kids 2 to 13 years old. It was amazing to see everybody's artistic talents while celebrating Easter.

The 3 best decorated eggs were given Chick- Fil-a gift cards. All the children's eggs were so creative, it was hard to choose. However, everyone had a great time and took home some very colorful eggs.

Easter Egg Hunt
On Saturday, April 4, the Housing Authority hosted an Easter egg hunt outside of the Life Skills Center. The event brought together over 50 kids of all ages for a morning of high energy fun. Between relay races, hunting for the "golden" egg, and laughter, it was a good time had by all. It was also fantastic opportunity for members of the Thomasville Community to connect and for the Housing Authority to support our families.

We would like to thank all our volunteers who assisted in making these events a success. From donating eggs and prizes to assisting with the egg hunt itself, we couldn't have done it with you!

"Enrichment Wednesdays" with the Thomasville Police Department
The Thomasville Police Department visited our after-school program students as part of our "Enrichment Wednesdays" initiative. During this visit, the students gained valuable insights regarding safety and the responsibilities of being a police officer. Additionally, they witnessed a demonstration showcasing the training of K9 police officers, which included how these dogs utilize scent to locate a person or object, the speed required during a chase, and their training to apprehend without causing harm to those they pursue. Furthermore, the students received several gifts to commemorate the occasion.

An interesting fact that the students discovered is that the K9 officer does not remain solely at the police station. The officer designated as their handler brings them home and looks after them, fostering a bond that enables them to function effectively as a team.

We extend our gratitude to Chief Dustin Carter and the Thomasville Police Department for visiting and engaging with our students, as well as for their dedication to serving the Thomasville community.

Community Closet hosted by Save our Babies

Community Clothes Closet is unique; they provide free clothing to all people in need. "Save Our Babies", in collaboration with the Thomasville Housing Authority, organized their spring "Community Closet." It's a shopping experience for people who might not otherwise have access to things they need. We believe clothing can open the door to a better future. Clothing is an often-overlooked basic need that can change someone's future when they have what they need to thrive. The initiative stemmed directly from a significant clothing drive led by Save Our Babies earlier this year. You never know what treasures you will find in our vast selection of clothes.

The Clothing Closet provides clothing for all ages, genders, and sizes to our community free of charge. We extend our gratitude to all who contributed, as well as to our event sponsor, Save Our Babies, for organizing such an enjoyable event. This will be a quarterly event.
