American Heart Month was established to address the alarming prevalence of heart disease and inspire individuals to take proactive measures. Heart disease is not only a personal health concern but also a public health challenge.
Here are a few risk factors that can lead to heart disease:
- High Blood Pressure
One of the leading contributors to heart disease, high blood pressure puts extra strain on the heart and blood vessels. - High Cholesterol
Elevated cholesterol levels can lead to plaque buildup in arteries, reducing blood flow and increasing the risk of heart attacks. - Smoking
Tobacco use damages blood vessels and reduces oxygen supply to the heart. - Obesity
Carrying excess weight increases the workload on the heart and raises the likelihood of developing diabetes, another major risk factor. - Sedentary Lifestyle
Lack of physical activity weakens the heart and contributes to weight gain and poor cardiovascular health. - Poor Diet
Diets high in saturated fats, sugar, and salt can negatively impact heart health. - Family History
Genetics play a role in the likelihood of developing heart disease, making it integral for those with a family history to be especially vigilant.
Start assessing your own habits and identifying areas for improvement. Simple steps such as preparing balanced meals, joining a local fitness class, or scheduling a health check-up can make a significant difference.
Why Renters Need Renters Insurance
Renters insurance isn't required by law, but a landlord may require or suggest you have a renters insurance policy.
Property owners have landlord insurance, which covers the owner or management company for property and liability issues related to the structure and common areas, such as sidewalks and stairways. Landlord insurance doesn't cover damage to your personal items.
Renters insurance is a safety net for tenants, providing help if unfortunate incidents affect you or your belongings. All renters should get renters insurance, since it offers vital financial protection at a very low cost.
Your landlord or property manager may require renters insurance , and getting a renters policy can save you thousands for damages caused by things like fires, theft, vandalism, loss food, burst pipes, windstorms, and more.
Renters insurance is more affordable than you think. You can typically find cheap renters insurance for about $5 -$15 a month.
Should I buy Renters Insurance When Its Optional?
- Covers your personal property like furniture, food loss, electronics and clothes if your rental unit catches fire or is damaged by another issue covered by your policy.
- Covers your personal items if they are vandalized or stolen.
- Includes additional living expenses coverage that can help pay for temporary housing if your unit is damaged due to a problem covered by your policy.
- Includes liability coverage, which pays for property damage and injuries you accidentally cause to others. Liability insurance also pays for your legal defense if you're sued for the incident.
- Includes medical payments coverage that will pay for minor injuries to guests, no matter who is at fault for the accident.
With schools closed on January 20th and 21st, the Housing Authority turned the Life Skills Center into the ultimate "Kids Day Out." From crafting custom jewelry and masterpiece paintings to competitive card games and gym sessions, there was never a dull moment. We capped things off with a classic movie day to relax and recharge. We loved seeing these bright smiles and creative minds in action! Our younger residents brought so much energy to the building!
