Message from Executive Director, Rosemary O. Steele
Dear Residents,
I want to thank you all for trusting us with your children, for attending our events and for supporting the housing authority wholeheartedly to continue to achieve the "best from everyone". Your children are ambitious for their futures.
Your support and the enthusiasm of our children have been invaluable in making this year a success at the Life Skill Center.
Our community is truly special, and I am thankful to every resident, staff member and family member that contributes to this.
Community work is so incredibly important and examples of this have been demonstrated by our Thomasville City Schools, Save our Babies, Smart Start, DC Health Department and Chair City Raising. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to these remarkable agencies and look forward to seeing them continue to inspire and lead.
Finally, as the summer break approaches, I wish you a relaxing and enjoyable summer break and look forward to exploring new summer programs at the Life Skill Center will bring.
Please take the time during the summer break to ensure that the children participate in the Summer Feeding Program. Let's work together to keep our community safe, healthy, and full of summer smiles. Wishing you a season of sunshine and good memories!

Not to use gas and charcoal grills and not to store or maintain combustible materials or liquids inside the dwelling unit.
If you are experiencing issues with any of your neighbors, please contact the office and we will the address any problems.
Summer is here, and with it comes sunshine, outdoor fun, and a few important reminders to help keep everyone safe and happy. Let's make this season enjoyable for all!
- Balconies and Porches: Keep balconies and porches tidy. Avoid storing items that could obstruct walkways or pose a hazard during high winds. GRILLS NOT ALLOWED.
- Water Conservation: Be mindful of water usage, especially during hot weather. Report any leaks or dripping faucets to maintenance promptly.
- Prevent Heat-Related Illnesses: Stay hydrated, take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas, and avoid strenuous activity during peak heat hours. Recognize signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, and act promptly to cool down and seek medical attention if needed.
- Prevent Slips, Trips, and Falls: Be mindful of uneven surfaces, wet areas, and obstacles in outdoor spaces. Supervise children closely during play and recreational activities to reduce injury risk.
Facts about Juneteenth
- On June 19, 1865, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was made law, Union Major General Gordon Granger read General Orders No. 3 in Galveston, TX, notifying the last 250,000 enslaved people in that they were free.
- The earliest recorded celebrations began in 1866, organized by freed Black Texans.
- Texas became the first state to officially recognize Juneteenth as a paid state holiday in 1979.
- On June 17, 2021, President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act, making it the 11th federal holiday
- Celebrations typically feature community parades, street fairs, historical reenactments, and cookouts with traditional foods that are red like red soda, barbecue, and watermelon. Red symbolizes power.
Taco Tuesday Family Cooking Class
On May 5th, the housing authority hosted a family cooking class to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. There was food, fun, and laughter all around as families helped with the preparation and cooking of both beef and chicken tacos. The children each had a task for them to complete while their parents stood close in case they needed help. In the end, everyone ended up with great food, better connections, and zero leftovers!
Mother's Day Fun with the Thomasville Housing Authority
On May 7th, the Thomasville Housing Authority kicked off Mother's Day weekend with events that celebrated mothers in our community. Although it was a rainy day, there were still warm feelings and good vibes. In the morning, we had Muffins with Mom where breakfast pastries, coffee, juice, and great conversations were served. The moms that made it helped create a special playlist for the occasion by submitting their favorites songs. They even played a fun game of "Mom translator" where common phrases are translated to motherly phrases. That afternoon, we had a special Mother's Day edition of Painting with a Twist. The ladies enjoyed a cheese and fruit tray and sparkling mocktails while unwinding while painting masterpieces and sharing laughs.
We hope that every mother in our THA community had a wonderful Mother's Day weekend and always remember that you are appreciated.
Triple "P" Positive Parenting Program Workshop hosted by Davidson County Health Department
The Thomasville Housing Authority has partnered up with the Davidson County Health Department to present the Triple "P" Positive Parenting Program to our residents through workshops on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month. These 90-minute workshops are specially designed to help parents by giving them the tools to:
- Encourage desired behavior from their children
- Deal with troubled behavior
- Build confidence in their parenting skills
- Become more realistic in their parenting
- And to take care of themselves as people and parents
These workshops are done in group settings and geared towards parents of children in different age groups. There is one for parents of children ages 0-12 and one for parents of teens ages 13-17covering various topics such as resilience in children, positive parenting, and raising responsible teens. At the end of the workshop, parents receive a certificate of completion and a small gift.
This is a great resource for all parents and families to become stronger and better connected.
We would like to thank Mrs. Sherrilynn Little of the Davidson County Health Department for leading these workshops for our THA families.
Mobile Food Pantry hosted by Carolina Complete Health
On May 14, 2026, the Thomasville Housing Authority, in partnership with Carolina Complete Health hosted a Mobile Food Pantry. Residents and community members were each given a bag and allowed to help themselves to fresh produce. A few items that were available included eggs, sweet potatoes, white potatoes, cabbage, peaches, and yellow onions. Families came and not only received fresh produce they exchanged recipes and cooking tips.
The Mobile food pantry provides an opportunity for the community to have access to as much fresh produce as they would like for free and encourages a healthy diet reach with natural vitamins. We would like to thank Carolina Complete Health for sponsoring such an awesome event. This will be a monthly event during the summer.
Innovation Hub: After School Tutoring and Enrichment Program
On May 20th, the Thomasville Housing Authority, in partnership with Save Our Babies and AmeriHealth Caritas, wrapped up its spring semester for the Innovation Hub After-School Program.
Since March 23rd, the program has been run weekly on Mondays and Wednesdays. Mondays were dedicated to academics, where students aged 7 and older received homework help and participated in focused reading and mathematics sessions. On "Enrichment Wednesdays," special guest presenters from community partners-including the Thomasville Fire Department, Thomasville Police Department, MyPlate, and the NC Cooperative Extension (focusing on financial literacy)-provided interactive activities that expanded on classroom learning.
The purpose of the Innovation Hub is to give students a safe place to land after the school bell rings by offering homework support, creative outlets, and essential academic and life-skill building. By investing in our youth's growth today, we help them develop the self-sufficiency and confidence needed to make smart choices for tomorrow.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of our volunteers from Thomasville Public Schools, as well as our guest presenters, for making this semester such a massive success. We wish all of our students a fun, safe, and happy summer break.
