Message from Executive Director Rosemary Q. Steele

Thomasville Housing Authority has genuine concern for the residents and the community. We are hosting " Front Porch Conversations" to foster community engagement and strengthen relationships. To give everyone a chance to participate, these sessions will take place twice a month, with a session in the morning and the afternoon.

The purpose is to:

• Build trust and rapport within the community.
• Gather feedback on local issues and concerns.
• Share important information about community events and resources.
• Encourage participation in community initiatives and activities.
• Promote a sense of belonging and connection among residents.
• Address individual residents needs and provide support where necessary.

PHADA Scholarship Program

In order to encourage academic excellence and community responsibility among high school students, PHADA has implemented a scholarship program for graduating seniors who are preparing to enter college. PHADA will award three scholarships to deserving youth currently residing in a PHADA member agency.

The 2026 PHADA Scholarship applications are now available for high school students. Submissions are due by January 26, 2026. Students MUST apply online here.

• Stephen J. Bollinger Memorial Scholarship (One scholarship available: $10,000)
• Civil Rights and Social Justice Scholarship (One scholarship available: $5,000)
• Nan McKay Pathway to Achievement Scholarship (One scholarship available: $5,000)

Holiday Shopping

In-store Safety Tips

• Take a friend or family member with you.
• Keep your car doors locked and set your car alarm.
• Watch for other cars or people in parking lots, and back out of parking spaces slowly.
• Save your receipts and monitor your credit card activity.
• Don't argue or fight over an item.
• If shopping with children, select a central location to meet in case you are separated. Teach kids how to identify and ask a security guard or employee for help if they're lost.
• Ask store security to escort you to your vehicle if you feel uneasy.
• Report ANY suspicious activity immediately.

Welcome, Our New Program Director, Jessica Crenshaw-Leonard

In October 2025, Mrs. Jessica Crenshaw-Leonard took over as the Lois A. Hunter Life Skills Center's new program director. She comes to the Thomasville Housing Authority all the way from Fort Worth, TX. She is a graduate of Tuskegee University with a degree in sociology and has over 10 years of experience in community development and programming. We are so delighted to have her and excited to see what she has in store for our THA community.

Healthy Eating Habits Workshop

The Thomasville Housing Authority and AmeriHealth Caritas of North Carolina collaborated to offer several cooking lessons in November that encouraged a healthy diet. The younger residents had the chance to learn new, delectable recipes, cooking techniques, kitchen safety, and hygiene through these sessions. This made a delicious chicken vegetable soup, buffalo chicken alfredo pasta dish, and fruit and vegetable smoothies. It goes without saying that everyone had a great time. These workshops will continue in 2026.
