School's Out Day: Mad Science Lab with THA
In honor of the last day of school on June 4th, the Thomasville Housing Authority hosted a School' s Out Day: Mad Science Lab. Kids from elementary school through high school came by to conduct fun and messy science experiments. They took an old cardboard box, some aluminum foil, black construction paper, and plastic wrap to create a solar oven to make s'mores. They also made simple slime and "elephant toothpaste" using warm water, yeast and dish soap.
Although the school year has ended, it is important to encourage Learning throughout the summer. It is the perfect time to pull concepts out of the classroom and bring them to life. Cooking can turn into a math lesson on fractions, an outdoor walk becomes a biology Lesson, and simple science experiments turn a hot afternoon into a hands-on lab.
We hope that this activity was the kickoff to an awesome summer!
