Thomasville Housing Authority Executive Director and CEO Lois A. Hunter to Retire

Thomasville Housing Authority announced today that Lois A. Hunter will retire as Executive Director effective February 1, 2024, after more than 49 years at the helm. She will work with the Board on a smooth leadership transition.

The Board will now proceed with a formal search for a successor and will consider both internal and external candidates. The Board will retain a search firm to help find Hunter's successor.

"I'm proud of what we have accomplished at Thomasville Housing Authority," said Hunter. "Together with my Board, we have reimagined Public Housing and Section 8 /Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program and worked to improve programs and services to help Public Housing and HCV families improve basic life skills and achieve economic independence. Thomasville Housing Authority makes a difference every day for its residents and communities and the Housing Authority is positioned for a great future. It has been a huge privilege to have the opportunity to lead this great Public Housing Authority for the past 49 years. However, I'm at a point in my life where I want to devote more time to my passions outside the workplace. I remain 100 percent committed to working closely with the Board and my eventual successor for a smooth transition and to ensure we keep our positive momentum on track."

Ron Richardson, Chairman of the Thomasville Housing Authority Board of Commissioners, stated Hunter's retirement will mark the end of a remarkable career with Thomasville Housing Authority. Under her leadership, Ms. Hunter has made critical changes to its strategy, structure and organization that position it strongly for success. This work continues, and we will thank Ms. Hunter wholeheartedly for her leadership and contribution to our housing authority when she leaves February 1, 2024."

"Ms. Hunter has made an extraordinarily positive and lasting impact on Thomasville Housing Authority and our residents. Her decision to retire marks the end of a remarkable run that has seen impressive accomplishments in establishing Thomasville Housing Authority as one of HUD's highest ranked Housing Authority in North Carolina.
